Nunchaku is the main arm of karate. Wield of them connects with karate system. Careful analysis of canonical and ritual motions in karate shows that this system submits to three principles. They are the principle of unconsciousness, the principle of forestalling and the principle of “not act”. Observance of these principles is the indispensable condition for development of high mastership. The first principle aims a person to perceive reality but do not realize its details. According it an opponent is not an abstract figure who only strikes blows. He is a usual person who has his advantages and disadvantages, his psychology. To look at an opponent means to weaken your position wittingly. It is necessary to merge with your opponent at united system of personal contact. It provides to sense his inner emotional experiences. Tutors advise:” If you look in opponents’ eyes you can see everything”. But they emphasize that to look simply is not enough. It may possible only in case when your Ego can be part of opponent’s inner world.
Your reactions must be und to the second principle. The principle of forestalling orients a warrior to consciously cultivate subconscious reactions. Such reactions must anticipate opponent’s reactions. Tutors call to: “Your hand must begin its motion at the same time of before a motion of opponent’s hand”. Thus this principle orients to master such motions which are like instincts. It is known that instinct is an inborn reaction of organism upon external irritation. It performs according to definite programs of organism. Protective motion in karate is not the instinct but realization of subconscious reactions. A person who follows the principle does not react upon false attack and do not do undesirable actions. Consciousness of the warrior remakes information clearly. Though his behavior may seem as not training to protect but consciousness is not a brake of instantaneous actions. Such impression appears by reason of the third principle.
The principle “not act” goes back to Buddhism dogmas. But essence of “not act” in karate differs from “not act” in classical Buddhism. In karate the principle means wearing, avoiding tensity and removal of untimely efforts. It demands training of self-control and calm waiting of opponent’s attack. So you can strike a crushing blow using weak places of opponent. “Not act” is the act at secret form. It is a challenge an opponent to attack and entrapping. The principle is the basis of training at all known karate schools but it is interpreted in different ways. Often tutors of karate explain your disciples the following: “When you stand in front of your opponent you must think nothing”. Your reason must be asleep and you must be in state of estrangement. Your face must be expressed only hatred and inevitability of your triumph. Only in that case your hands and legs can be acted freely and easily.
